Opening Day for the Cincinnati Reds is upon us, and fans are rejoicing for the upcoming baseball season!

A big cold front is on deck Wednesday. While the heaviest rain exits by Wednesday evening, a slight chance for a rain/snow mix lingers into the night. This tapers off early Thursday.

Expect temperatures to plummet as cold air rushes into Cincinnati early Thursday. Lows will drop below freezing!

This will be one of the coldest Opening Days in Reds history, if not the coldest.

Through the morning on Thursday, there’s a chance for some flurries. They won’t last all day if they do happen, but that’s a sign of how cold it will be to start the day!

For outside plans before the game, you will want to bundle up and possibly grab a hot cup of hot chocolate! Temperatures by lunchtime will only be in the mid-30s, and northwest winds will make it feel colder with wind chills in the upper 20s.

By the first pitch, skies are sunnier with highs topping off in the upper 30s to near 40. A blustery northwest wind is possible at times, and this will keep wind chills in the lower 30s.

Plan on temperatures in the upper 30s for the first few innings before falling into the mid-30s by 7 p.m.

While the sky will be sunny and dry for the Opening Day game, it’ll be one of the coldest on record! As long as you plan for the cold and add the layers, you’ll be good to go.

Reds Opening Day Weather Trivia

Cincinnati Reds fans have seen it all on Opening Day: snow, rain and cold!

This year will not be any different and could go down as one of the coldest in the franchise's Opening Day history.

It has rained more than it's snowed on Opening Day, but there has been snow on Opening Day twice. The biggest event was back in 1977 when three to four inches of snow fell earlier in the day with flurries still flying for the late-afternoon game.

Opening Day in 1935 was the first time with measurable snow when 0.1" fell. There have been other times with flurries.

If you remember the start of the 2018 season, the Reds had to postpone the game due to the threat of rain. This was the first time in 52 years that their Opening Day game was postponed because of inclement weather. In 1966, rain wiped out the entire opening three-game series. The game wasn’t played until 11 days later.

While Thursday will feature a cold start to the season, it will hopefully have a hot win for the Reds!
