The Queens bus network redesign will start this summer, the MTA announced Thursday.
Phase one will launch on Sunday, June 29, and phase two will begin on Sunday, Aug. 31, the MTA said.
The redesign, which was approved in January by the MTA board, will include increased service on 20 routes, 17 new routes and 25 “rush routes,” which stop less frequently to provide faster service to train stations.
Nearly 800,000 people ride Queens buses every day, according to the MTA. The MTA estimates that 84% of riders will have the same stop they currently use.
New York City Transit and the city Department of Transportation will add signs at thousands of bus stops throughout the borough advising riders of the launch, the MTA said. “Guide-A-Ride” inserts – brightly colored inserts alerting commuters of the changes – will also be replaced starting this week, according to the MTA.
The MTA said a list of start dates for each bus route will be published at a later date. For now, commuters can find more on the bus network redesign here.
