TAMPA, Fla. — An eight-run fifth inning by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim doomed the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday in the finale of their three-game series, as the Angels won 11-1.

Los Angeles hit six home runs — two each by Taylor Ward, Mike Trout and Jo Adell.

Adell made team history with his homers, as they both came in the fifth inning.

He hit Zack Littell’s first-pitch slider 408 feet out to center leading off the inning and ended it with a three-run shot to left off Mason Englert.

Adell became the third Angels player in franchise history to homer twice in an inning. Rick Reichardt did it in a 12-run inning at Boston in 1966, and Kendrys Morales did it in a nine-run sixth at Texas in 2012.

In between Adell's blasts, Ward hit his second homer of the game and Trout hit the first of his two.

The Angels, off to a surprising 8-4 start to the 2025 season, sent the Rays to their sixth loss in seven games.

The Rays, trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, cut the Angels' lead in half on a Jonathan Aranda RBI single, only to watch the Angels knock Little out of the game during their fifth-inning outburst.

The Rays begin a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves on Friday night at Steinbrenner Field.
