MASON, Ohio — Olivia Sulek is on another level.

The 17-year-old Mason native has remained as a top five CrossFit athlete in the world for three years straight.

But Sulek said she's only just begun.

What You Need To Know

  • Olivia Sulek is one of the top CrossFit athletes in the world

  • She doesn't plan on giving up the title anytime soon

  • Starting March 11, competition resumes, and Sulek said she's ready

“2019 didn't go how I wanted to. I've definitely learned, grown, and I've just been kind of keeping that all inside and ready to use it now,” said  Sulek.

ESF CrossFit Owner and Sulek's coach Nic Simpson has been along for the journey as well.

Although COVID-19 claimed victory over their entire 2020 season, regular competition returns March 11.

“She has the chance to go as a teen, but she's kind of set some higher ambition that she wants to try and be the first or one of the first teenagers to qualify as an adult in the games. And so we don't know exactly what that will look like but we're going to give it our best shot,” said Simpson.

While Sulek cycles full speed ahead, she's reminded of the tasks that lie in her future: Finishing up studies in her homeschool track, and regaining that title as “Fittest Teen on Earth” one more time.

She said one thing that keeps her motivated is the confidence her coach continues to have in her abilities.

“Nic believed in me from such a young age, and I didn't want to make him disappointed. I wanted to make my family proud. He brought something into me that I had no idea I had. It's completely changed how I do everything in life," Sulek said. "The person I am now, to the person I was four years ago, I'm not nearly the same type of person."

“You know I did see a bigger picture a long time ago. And for it to be this close, and for things to be playing out the way they are, it's exciting and it's inspiring for me to try and be the best coach I can be to help her,” said Simpson.
