It was a close game Sunday night between the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs. The Bengals lost by a field goal in the final minute, set up by a Bengals' penalty.

“I think we expected a good game and we got a good game Bengals one three going into this,” said Scott Sloan, 700 WLW Scott Sloan Show host. “Losing this one unfortunately gets them out of the Super Bowl for the second time in two years.”

Sloan talked about the AFC Championship all of Monday morning. He said there are several reasons why the Bengals lost, one of which he said was  because of the Twitter statement from Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval:

"Whereas Joseph Lee Burrow, who’s 3-0 against Mahomes, has been asked by officials to take a paternity test to confirm whether or not he’s his father,” said Pureval. “And whereas Kansas City is named after its neighboring state, which is, you know, just kind of weird."

"Travis Kelce, who is a future Hall of Famer, not once, but twice, three times calls the mayor out, I think that’s bulletin board material. I think the mayor of Cincinnati cost us this game."

Pureval was a good sport about it on Twitter, tweeting that he deserved the criticism.

While some of the Bengals fans Sloan talked to agree that the mayor was to blame, others said it was the referees' fault for making calls that didn't seem to go the Bengals' way.

“They blew a couple plays where there was a redo that they did which you don’t often see because they blew a whistle at Arrowhead,” said Sloan. “And they didn’t hear the whistle I guess and you saw officials start to run out and stop the play but they decided to reset it, but I think that was a slight against the Bengals.”

On Monday, Spectrum News caught up with Bengals player Ted Karras to talk to him about his thoughts on the game. The offensive lineman was pretty beat up during the game and said it was a hard fight.

“It was heartbreaking losing the championship, but it’s fun to get around the guys and a lot to be proud of this year,” said Karras. “But ultimately came up short.”

But despite the heartbreaking loss, Sloan said he’s confident they’ll be back at it again next year against Kansas City. Next time, he said, the Bengals will be taking home a win.

“Every game has been decided by a field goal and this one was no exception,” said Sloan. “Unfortunately, KC got the best of us, but we’re going to come after them next year and we’re going to win it at Paycor instead of at Kansas City.”
