It’s hard to keep up with Stephanie Ogunbiyi.

She has been part of the indoor and outdoor track teams at DeWitt Clinton High School since she was a freshman.

The track star specializes in hurdling and sprinting events.

She led the Governors to three Bronx P.S.A.L. Championship wins and is a two-time Colgate Women’s Games Scholarship winner.

Ogunbiyi credits her strong discipline for her success on the track.

“I feel like you just need the right mindset. You have to stay positive. You have to put in the work because the work you put in is what you get out. You can’t not want to put 100% in, then you want 100% out. It has to be 100 both ways,” Ogunbiyi said.

Ogunbiyi’s coach has come to rely on her to lead her younger teammates in more ways than one.

“What I enjoy most about her is to see her growth from freshman year to senior year. I mean, she’s at the level now where I count on her. I depend on her. She’s rare. I mean, I’ve had tremendous athletes in the past, she’s what you call a student athlete, she’s a student first, athlete second, and she excelled in both,” Cornel Johnson, DeWitt Clinton High School track and field coach, said.

Ogunbiyi is just as strong in the classroom.

The honors student is ranked toward the top of her class, with several advanced placement courses on her schedule. She’s also a math tutor, guiding others in her favorite subject.

“It makes me feel like I’ve done my job with helping them because the best thing you want is you’re teaching someone and they’re learning from your teaching and becoming better, so it makes me feel good that they get it,” Ogunbiyi said.

Ogunbiyi dreams of becoming a lawyer someday and plans to study political science in the fall.

She said she’s ready to hit the ground running in whatever the future has in store.
