Members of Albany law enforcement joined a public meeting on the state of policing in the city.
The Albany Community Policing Advisory Committee hosted the community conversation at UAlbany's downtown campus Tuesday night.
Interim Police Chief Brendan Cox emphasized the importance of building connections and trust with the community. He also says the department is short-staffed, and in the middle of a major recruitment push.
"They won't be police officers, but they'll be peace officers. That will free up desk officers and some other positions," Cox said. "We'll be able to bring those individuals back and get more officers on the street."
The department is planning a recruitment open house at its headquarters this weekend.
