Sen. Zellnor Myrie and Congressman Dan Goldman started the week together, as Goldman backed Myrie in the race for mayor during a cable news interview and a press conference near City Hall Monday.

Goldman explained why he endorsed Myrie more than four months before the Democratic primary, saying “for me it was important, if I was going to jump in, to do it early when it can make the most difference.”

“It is really my honor to have his support,” Myrie said.

Goldman said he’s encouraged by Myrie’s plans to build one million units of housing and improve the city’s mental health support network.

And during their joint press conference, Myrie and Goldman both hit Mayor Eric Adams hard for his relationship with President Donald Trump and his reaction to Trump’s policies.

Myrie described Adams as “a mayor more interested in cozying up to the president than focusing on the issues New Yorkers care about.”

The race for mayor is beginning to intensify ahead of the June primaries. Last week, Congressman Jerry Nadler threw his weight behind former City Comptroller and Democrat Scott Stringer, citing stringer’s vision and experience.

And local organizations have started hosting candidate forums.

“I have launched and won the Fix the MTA campaign,” mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani said at a mayoral candidate forum.

“We do need a mayor who will stand up for our values and we don’t have one,” mayoral candidate Brad Lander said at a mayoral candidate forum.

The mayor has yet to participate in any of these conversations, even though back in December Adams said he’s looking forward to forums and debates.

“Because I have something to run on, not just a dollar and a dream,” Adams said last year at a press briefing.

Meanwhile, an Emerson College poll found the democratic primary field is dominated by someone who hasn’t even entered the race — former Gov. Andrew Cuomo. So far, Adams has brushed off a potential Cuomo challenge.

“He hasn’t announced, and I’m a firm believer. I’m not running against anyone. I’m running against myself,” Adams said in an interview with Tucker Carlson last month.
