ASHLAND, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol said one person died after a single-engine plane crashed Monday in Ashland County.

OSHP said the plane crash occurred around 7:42 p.m. in the woods near State Route 89 and Township Road 902 in Jackson Township. The pilot of the plane was Gary Wolfelt, 72, of West Lafayette, Ind., according to OSHP. He was the only person on board.

The plane was an Express 2000 FT, according to OSHP. 

The crash is under investigation. It wasn't determined what may have caused the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ashland County Sheriff's Office, the Polk Jackson Perry Fire District, the Ashland County Coroner's Office, the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration all responded to the scene.
