Motorists are encouraged to avoid Kapiolani Boulevard near the Hawaii Convention Center starting Monday, March 24 as lanes will be closed due to work relocating a gas line and paving the road.

The necessary work conducted by the city’s Department of Design and Construction in coordination with Hawaii Gas will have a significant impact on traffic flow and drivers are advised to use alternate routes.

From Monday, the eastbound right and middle lanes of Kapiolani Boulevard from Atkinson Drive to Hauoli Street will be closed for about three weeks from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The right and middle lanes in the westbound direction between McCully Street and Kalakaua Avenue will also be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from March 24 to 28.

In addition, the westbound right lane of Kapiolani Boulevard from Hauoli Street to Kalakaua Avenue will close 24/7 from March 25 to 28.

Paving in the eastbound lanes from Hauoli Street to University Avenue is expected to finish in two weeks, weather permitting. Paving work between McCully Street and Atkinson Drive will continue in both directions through May.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and drive with caution in the area. Use alternate routes when possible.
