ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A stadium deal for the Rays fell apart this week after team ownership decided not to move forward.

However, the stadium isn't the only thing affected.

In that proposal were plans for a new Woodson African American of Florida Museum.

Terri Lipsey Scott, the museum's Executive Director, said this is not what they were hoping for.

"We were ecstatic to be a part of the proposal," she said. "Now, with it not moving forward, I would say it causes a little angst."

Scott said this is not the end, just a roadblock.

With the support of county commissioners, city council, and the community, they're confident they'll find a way to move forward.

They want to be the "Smithsonian of the South," and despite all this happening, that's still the goal.

"We have some of the most extraordinary museums here in the southeast region, and absent that within the chain of museums is a purpose-built African-American museum," she said.
