Having advanced past the first round with a tight win over Florida State, Syracuse's men's basketball team looks to stay alive in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament tonight when it takes on No. 6 seed Southern Methodist in Charlotte, N.C.
The Orange and Mustangs tip off at approximately 9:30 p.m., with the game broadcast on ESPNU. The winner advances to a Thursday night quarterfinal against No. 3 seed Clemson, one of four ACC teams — joining Duke, Louisville and Wake Forest — with a double bye in the tourney.
The teams met in Dallas earlier this month, with SMU holding on for a 77-75 win. The Orange rebounded from that loss to win their next two games, however, including Tuesday night's conference tourney win over Florida State.
JJ Starling is averaging 17.9 points for the Orange. Eddie Lampkin Jr. is averaging 14.8 points over the last 10 games. Starling scored 27 points in SU's win over Florida State on Tuesday; Lampkin Jr. had 14 points and nine rebounds in the win.
SMU ranks third in the ACC in rebounding, averaging 34.7 rebounds. Kevin Miller is averaging 13.4 points, 5.7 assists and 1.6 steals for the Mustangs. Chuck Harris is averaging 14.4 points over the last 10 games.
