A man accused of randomly attacking seven women in Manhattan last spring has been indicted on hate crime charges, prosecutors said Thursday.

Daquan Armstead, 32, is charged with three counts of third-degree assault as a hate crime, two counts of third-degree attempted assault as a hate crime and seven counts of second-degree aggravated harassment, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.

Armstead has also been charged with one count of third-degree assault and one count of third-degree attempted assault, the DA’s office said.

“As alleged, Daquan Armstead targeted seven women in a pattern of misogynistic attacks throughout our borough,” Bragg said in a statement. “Manhattan is no place for discrimination and hatred and we will continue seeking justice for these victims.”

According to prosecutors, Armstead carried out the string of attacks in March and April of 2024.

Six of his alleged victims ranged in age from 25 to 44, with the assaults occurring in neighborhoods including Greenwich Village, Chelsea and the Lower East Side, prosecutors said.

In multiple incidents, he is accused of punching women in the head or face, causing injuries including a fractured cheekbone and black eyes.

Prosecutors said Armstead was arrested on April 23 at a homeless shelter in the Bronx.
