Teri Olyaie held back tears because the place where she took her grandkids is about to be gone.

“I’m really sad it’s going,” she said. “It’s a legend from Cincinnati, and it’s being you know, it’s leaving and the next generation won’t be able to see it.”

She’s one of thousands at Entertrainment Junction, just north of Cincinnati, trying to see it one last time before it shuts down for good.

“A little bitter sweet, it’s hard to let go,” said Entertrainment Junction owner Don Oeters. “Since we’ve announced to close on January 5, our business has doubled. I wish that would have happened a few years back.”

Oeters and a group of volunteers started the business with just an idea back in 2006, and he said they built it into what’s known as the world’s largest train display.

They’ve added on to it every year, creating detailed cities, landmarks and the history behind it, but he said ticket sales were slow, and for him, it’s time.

“I’m retiring. I’m 71 years old, and it is time to move on,” said Oeters. “I did try very hard to find somebody to take it over and buy the building and business unsuccessful.”

He said the building has already been sold and is going to be turned into an events center, but that won’t be happening until they close for good on Jan. 5. It’s the last Entertrainment stop that they all decided to go on.

“It was a spur-of-the-moment decision, and it’s the best decision I’ve made all day,” said Olyaie.

After the building closes up shop in January, the owner said they also plan to sell off the trains inside in a liquidation sale.
