CLEVELAND — While thousands in Ohio are struggling to put food on the table, one organization is stepping up to help residents.
The Greater Cleveland Food Bank distributed holiday meal essentials and fresh produce on Tuesday to more than 500 families. Being the busiest week of the year for them, they partnered with 100 volunteers from Huntington National Bank to accomplish the feat.
The bank also donated $50,000 that went toward purchasing Thanksgiving turkeys.
"(The) Thanksgiving meal is a fundamental family, Americana value," said Sean Richardson, President of Huntington Bank Northeast Ohio Region. "We're just proud to be a little part of being able to provide meals for those in need."
Last November, more than 5 million pounds of food was distributed to those in need by the food bank.
“It’s incredible what this resource is to our entire community,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne. “And you couldn’t do it without Huntington Bank. Thank you for being such a great corporate citizen and helping for a happier holiday this Thanksgiving.”
The need remains high, last fiscal year Greater Cleveland Food Bank served just over 424,000 residents, with 25% of them seeking food assistance for the first time.
