COLUMBUS, Ohio — After two and a half days of questioning a jury pool of more than 100 people, the judge and attorneys finally dwindled it down to 16 jurors for the murder trial against former Columbus Police officer Adam Coy.
The jury includes nine women and seven men, 13 of them are white and three are Black.
During the selection process, the attorneys on both sides had several heated moments between each other because of conflicting opinions of who was impartial. Topics of race, past experiences and feelings toward the police were all discussed as they dwindled down potential jurors.
After the jury was selected, the jurors made about a 15-minute drive over to where the shooting occurred four years ago. This gave them a chance to look around the garage where Andre Hill was shot and also gave them a sense of some surroundings.
In the end, they’ll have to decide whether former Columbus Police officer Adam Coy is guilty on charges of murder, reckless homicide and felonious assault.
Thursday morning, the trial will begin with opening statements where the attorneys on both sides will officially state their case to the jury. Testimony from the first witness could potentially be heard Thursday afternoon.
