CINCINNATI — There are just 19 days until the election and voters across the state are making their final decisions on who they will vote for.
In southwest Ohio, the race for congressional district 1 is highly contested between incumbent Greg Landsman and his opponent, Orlando Sonza.
Candidates on both sides of the aisle for Ohio Congressional District One came together for their third and final debate at Xavier University in front of students to talk about the issues most important to them.
With a room full of students Greg Landsman and Orlando Sonza debated over topics that many voters are looking at come Election Day, including the economy, reproductive rights, conflict in the Middle East and Ukraine and illegal immigrants.
While the two don’t agree on much- they can agree it’s important for voters to be educated ahead of this election.
“Being as informed as possible is hugely important," Landsman said. "These are really consequential elections. And, you know, I love that this room was full mostly students of who wanted to learn more about these two congressional candidates.”
The debate included questions from students, a demographic that is expected to make a large turnout in this year’s election. Sonza said that’s why he and Landsman agreed to these debates, so voters could get to know their ideas for change.
“For the first time ever, where across both parties you have voters that are turning up, they are showing up, they are casting their ballot," Sonza said. "They're getting their voice heard. Because at the end of the day, they want to be able to have a say on how to fix these problems that we have as we head into the future of this country."
Landsman is in his first term as the Ohio representative for District 1 and Sonza is a veteran who is the director for the Hamilton County Veterans Service Commission.
