OHIO — It doesn’t appear Israel's Defense Forces will slow down any time soon when it comes to strikes in Lebanon. The concern now is about how the U.S. military will respond and to what degree in the region.

What You Need To Know

  • Tensions in the Middle East continue to rise as missiles from Hezbollah and Iran land in Israel
  • Experts say the U.S. typically sends a carrier strike group and a naval group who is already to prepared to deal with tensions rising
  • The U.S. will now have to consider if it will mobilize more troops as time goes on

Glen Duerr, professor of International Studies at Cedarville University, said as Hezbollah fires mortars, rockets and missiles into Israel, it’s prompting the escalation of conflict.

“Now Israel is trying to respond, especially initiating Special Forces to conduct raids in that area to try and root out the estimated 150,000 rockets and missiles,” Duerr said.

Duerr explained that normally the U.S. will send a carrier strike group and a naval group into the Mediterranean.

He added that in times like these, troops and bases stationed in the Middle East get intelligence updates. As the U.S. considers its next moves, Duerr said raids conducted by Israel, any sort of ground force attacks and missiles fired by Iran could prompt mobilization of U.S. troops, including those in Ohio.
