COLUMBUS, Ohio — The affordable housing crisis continues in central Ohio as Columbus’s population grows.

What You Need To Know

  • Nationwide Children's Hospital just opened four new affordable housing duplexes in the Linden neighborhood on Reeb Avenue to help combat the housing crisis in central Ohio

  • The duplexes are rental properties that cost about $900 a month to lease

  • The $2.35 million project was funded by Columbus city council, Southside Renaissance Fund and private funding

To combat this issue, Nationwide Children’s Hospital opened four new affordable housing duplexes in the Linden area through its Healthy Homes initiative. The four duplexes opened on Reeb avenue last month and all four duplexes were leased out within days of opening.

According to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, each duplex cost about $900 a month to rent. Usually, a duplex of this size and location would cost around fourteen hundred dollars a month. The vice president of community wellness at Nationwide Children’s said they built these duplexes in Linden because many of their patients come from the Linden neighborhood.

“We realized that we need to invest in the community and the neighborhoods that our kids are going back into. And what better way to do that than having them go to a safe, quality, affordable home,” said Jones.

The project cost $2.35 million to build. Funding for the project came from Columbus City Council, the Southside Renaissance Fund and private funding.
