ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Cannabis is top of mind for many Ohioans, leaving them wanting to learn more about it.
Zane State Community College here in Zanesville partnered with Green Flower and is now offering an online cannabis course that anyone can enroll in this fall if they are interested in a career in cannabis.
“Cannabis is a very complex, very competitive industry. So if people want to work in this industry or start businesses in this industry, it really serves them to get a good education. That’s what these programs as and state are designed to do,” said the CEO of Green Flower, Max Simon.
Max Simon is the CEO of Green Flower, a cannabis curriculum organization that partners with different colleges and universities across the country. Its newest partnership, Zane State Community College. Offering three different nine-week online courses, including retail, cultivation, and extraction and product development.
“In the cannabis industry, those are the three most important sectors where people get good-paying jobs,” said Simon.
Zane State Community College is the first community college in the state to offer this course and partner with Green Flower. Zane State president, Chad Brown says the school has been working to collaborate with Green Flower for a few years because of medical marijuana sales, but now with recreational marijuana legal in Ohio there’s even more of a reason to do it.
“Our local community had a has a very large grow facility. So it was something that was on the minds of people locally as well. We’ve worked with them over the last couple of years trying to understand their coursework,” said the president of Zane State Community College, Chad Brown.
But he says he’s happy Zane State is a pioneer in this movement.
“I’m really glad that Zane State, a community college, really has the opportunity to lead the way. A lot of times we think about the four-year universities and oftentimes much of our workforce, particularly in rural communities like we serve, much of our workforce comes from graduates at the community college. So, we’re really happy that we can be a part of that and can be a leader in this,” said Brown.
The online courses start in October and aren’t limited to Zane State students.
