COLUMBUS, Ohio — In honor of it being the last few days of summer before school is back in session, the Columbus Museum of Art is celebrating creativity by hosting a back-to-school themed Community Days event.

“We’re more than just an art museum. We are a hub for the community and we want people to feel that whether today here at Community Day or any other day that you come to the museum,” said Lydia Simon, the director of marketing and communications at the Columbus Museum of Art. 

Embracing and celebrating creativity, the Columbus Museum of Art is reminding community members of all ages the importance of keeping arts in the classroom. 

“We value the power of creativity. Creativity is important in the way that we teach young children and also people of all ages to think creatively,” said Simon. 

Structured like a school day, the Community Days retro back to school event has different activities community members can enjoy throughout the day on a school period schedule. The event offers a range of activities, from doodling on the lawn to do-it-yourself projects and even recess. While the museum has created special activities for this event, they still have some of their regular exhibits. 

“We are also hosting our signature 10 minutes on the dot series where you can delve deeper into an individual work of art. And today’s sessions are all based around classic school subjects like English history, science,” said Simon.
