DAYTON, Ohio — It’s no secret that school supplies can be very expensive.
For families experiencing homeless, making sure your children are ready and feeling confident for school can be a heartbreaking situation.
For the first time, the organization Family Promise of Greene County, OH, is hosting a major back-to-school event.
While the nonprofit focuses on emergency shelter and stabilization for families, the free event is open to all children in Greene County.
Along with taking home plenty of school supplies, families can also enjoy free haircuts, hair braiding, lunch, face painting, games, a DJ and access to resources.
“I think that sometimes people forget that the little things mean so much for a child,” said Deanna McCrary, Family Promise of Greene County executive director. “So we wanted this event to be centered around the happiness and togetherness within the community to ensure that all the children within the community are addressed,”
The event runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, at Lexington Park in Xenia.
Children of all ages are welcome.
