CLEVELAND — TownHall and three other Ohio restaurants announced via Instagram they would be broadcasting none of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games because of a display during the opening ceremony on Friday, which they said insulted the Christian faith.

The scene in question features French LGBTQ Icon DJ Barbara Butch surrounded by drag queens and dancers. Many have said it parallels Leonardo de Vinci’s painting of “The Last Supper.” 

 

The ceremony’s artistic director and Paris Olympics organizers said the performance was not inspired by the painting at all, instead it was meant to celebrate diversity and culture.

But, the backlash continues, with former U.S. President Donald Trump weighing in, calling the scene “a disgrace.

Police are currently investigating complaints of online abuse against the performers, per order of French prosecutors.

The other restaurants in the group include REBOL and Green Goat Café Bar in Cleveland and Mandrake Rooftop in Columbus. Spectrum News 1 reached out to the businesses for comment about the Olympics boycott, and has not received a response to our request.
