AKRON, Ohio — More than 300 youth racers were in Akron Saturday for the All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship.

The Soap Box Derby has been an Akron tradition since 1933, with the first sanctioned race in 1935. The world championship for the sport takes place at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio.

The cars are motorless, running only on gravity. The racers go between 20 to 30 miles per hour down a hill. The final races are followed by a ceremony at the Akron Civic Theater Saturday night.
