GREENE COUNTY, Ohio — After months of anticipation, a new attraction is ready to get "moooving" at one of Ohio’s most iconic farms.

A special carousel at Young’s Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs is no longer under construction.

What You Need To Know

  • Grand Opening for Carousel at Young's Jersey Dairy is Thursday, July 11 at 7:30 p.m.

  • Each animal tells a story of the Young family dairy farm

  • The ride features 21 horses, six jersey dairy cows, one rooster, one pig and one goat that are all hand-painted

John Young is the "CIEIO" of the dairy and he’s the fourth generation.

“So ‘Cowtherine’s Carousel,' we’ve been talking about it for two decades. My Aunt Deb, anytime we have a family meeting about what’s next, what’s our next attraction going to be, this is the only thing she brought up. That’s the reason we have the rooster is because she hates chickens,” said Young as he rode on the rooster on the carousel.

Throughout the entire 36-foot carousel, you’ll see six custom-made Jersey Cows and 21 horses painted with a different theme of the Young’s Ice Cream flavors.

“This one has a Christmas theme, there’s one with three of our second generation Young’s milking cows, there’s one of the history of our farm, there’s one over there — it’s ‘Oinkle Sam’ because he’s a pig. Every animal has details that are hand-painted and really pretty,” Young said.

Even the sounds of the ride have a special meaning as Young’s 9-year-old daughter, Scarlett, narrates the welcome and goodbye messages.

“This one is ‘hot cocoa peppermint.' My daughter, a fifth-generation Young, she came up with this flavor a couple years ago,” Young said as he pointed to the horse with his daughter’s favorite ice cream flavor.

He hopes the ride will be a place for everyone during anytime of the year.

“So there’s a ramp that slides out, we can ride you right up, there’s another chariot on the other side so we can have multiple people that if they want to ride the carousel, but don’t feel like they can hop on a horse, a cow or a pig. They can hop on, too,” said Young.

Each ride is about two minutes, but for Young, it didn’t take a lot of "cow-culations" to figure out that the new ride would help "beef up" the family fun.

“Since we’ve been talking about this, I’ve never disagreed with my Aunt Deb that this is the next thing to do. Seeing the kids faces that have come in and watched us testing it, it’s going to be a hit so I’m really excited to see the public see it,” he said.

The Grand Opening for "Cowtherine’s Carousel" is on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Ride tickets are $3 and the carousel will run until midnight.
