COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio lawmakers are working to finalize the state’s capital budget appropriations with the goal of bringing the measures to vote before the general assembly goes on recess after next week’s sessions.

What You Need To Know

  • House Bill 629 and Senate Bill 292 include identical versions of the state's proposed 2025-2026 capital budget

  • The bills are currently in finance committee hearings on both sides of the Statehouse

  • If the budget is approved by lawmakers next week, disbursement of the funds could begin as early as July

On Monday, identical budget bills were introduced in both the Ohio House and Senate, outlining plans for the allocation of about $4 billion in state funds, including about $150 million for community projects across the state.

Both chambers also received a total of $700 million from the state’s general fund to designate for community projects.

“This changes a lot of communities with the money that they’re getting,” said State Rep. Jay Edwards, chairman of the Ohio House Finance Committee. “But also it’s about the people that’s doing the work on those buildings, so we want to put people to work. It helps the economy.”

“I look at it as we’ll have economic opportunities. We’ll provide a quality of life which improves people’s well-being here in Ohio,” said State Sen. Matt Dolan, chairman of the Ohio Senate Finance Committee.

The budget bills are currently in finance committee hearings on both sides of the statehouse and legislators are expected to vote on the capital budget June 26.
