DAYTON — The eyes of the world will turn to Dayton, Ohio, over Memorial Day weekend 2025.
Officials announced the plans for the city to host the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s spring session.
It’s been twenty years since the meeting has been held in the United States.
“This is going to be exciting because once again, the international view is going to turn toward Dayton, Ohio,” said Representative Mike Turner of Ohio’s 10th Congressional District.
For years, Congressman Turner has been working to bring the Assembly to Dayton.
It will serve as a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Accords.
Three decades ago, countries around the world came together at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to bring peace to the Balkans and Bosnia.
“It happens to coincide with the 30 year anniversary of the Dayton Peace Accords where the spotlight of the world was also on Dayton, Ohio. So this is just a good thing. It’s a good thing for state, it’s a good thing for the people of Dayton and we’re just very proud we’ll be hosting this,” said Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.
“There will be slightly over 600 people who will come to our community, over 250 of those will be actual delegates, who are voting delegates of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly who will take up deliberations while they’re here,” said Rep. Turner.
From Ukraine and Russia, to Israel and Gaza, major national security issues will be discussed.
Meetings will be scattered around the region with an emphasis on highlighting historical sites that showcase Dayton’s history, aviation advancements, and Wright-Patterson AFB.
“This is about NATO getting to see Main Street USA. New York, LA, Orlando, those are all really big cities with a lot of amenities, but if they want to see the heart of America, real people doing real work every single day, it happens right here in Dayton, Ohio,” said Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Chris Kershner..
