“Eric Garner said, ‘I can’t breathe.’ George Floyd said, ‘I can’t breathe.’ Frank Tyson said, ‘I can’t breathe.’ How many more Black men in America has to tell police officers ‘I can’t breathe?’” Crump said.

Tyson died two weeks ago after police responded to a car crash and then found Tyson in a nearby bar. Body camera footage showed a Canton police officer putting his knee on Tyson’s neck. The cause of death has not been released. Bobby DiCello, who worked as an attorney on Jayland Walker’s case, expressed how much attention he wants this case to receive.

“And it’s our job to make sure the whole world knows Frank’s case,” DiCello said.

There was no announcement of a lawsuit, but the attorneys and family said they are exploring all their options. Some of Tyson’s family, such as his little brother, John Tyson, also spoke at the press conference.

“Through our mourning, we just want justice, answers and accountability,” John Tyson said.

Frank Tyson had recently been released from prison before his death after serving 24 years. His fiancé, Sabrina Jones, said he was working on a way to clear his name before he died.

“He had a future, he had a plan, he was ready. He wasn’t ready to die though,” she said.

The family said they will find a way to exonerate his name and seek justice for his death.

The Canton Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
