MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — A record-setting investment in clean energy is expected to bring more jobs to Ohio.

What You Need To Know

  • The Biden administration is investing $6 billion dollars in clean energy projects

  •  The investment is funding more than 30 projects across the country

  • $575 million will go toward the two projects for Cleveland-Cliffs

Jennifer Granholm, U.S. Secretary of Energy, made the announcement at the Middletown Works Steel Mill in Southwest Ohio. Nationwide, the investment amounts to $6 billion, spread across 33 clean energy products. Among those is one benefiting Cleveland-Cliffs, which will receive $575 million for two projects, including one at the Middletown plant.

“These projects are going to slash our emissions by 14 million metric tons per year,” said Granholm. “They are replicable. They are scalable. What you do here in Middletown will be looking at how we can replicate that in places all across the country.”

The investment is expected to bring 170 new jobs to the Middletown plant. Granholm said the $6 billion investment in clean energy is the largest in American history.
