Ottawa, Ohio — LeBron James has been the only Ohio high school basketball player to start in four straight Final Four games until now. Ottawa-Glandorf senior, Colin White, will now be joining him.
“To be in that type of company, it’s special. You know to hear your name and LeBron James in the same sentence, you know, for an Ohio kid that’s a special thing,” White said.
White’s head coach, Tyson McLaughin, expressed how special it is for the whole town.
“It’s pretty surreal. Small town, Putnam County here where everybody knows everybody and to just to hear Lebron James and Colin White in the same sentence, it’s hard for me as a coach to wrap my head around, but the kid’s worked extremely hard, he’s put Ottawa-Glandorf on the map,” McLaughlin said.
White won Ohio’s Mr. Basketball this year, and he said he couldn’t have done it with those around him.
“It’s a huge win. Mr. Basketball doesn’t happen without my teammates and coaches, so you know that’s first and foremost. They really make Mr. Basketball happen. It’s an individual award, but it’s a team award at the same time,” White said.
White, an Ohio State commit, upped his game this year following him finding out he was going to be a Buckeye.
“Getting to that next level is something you always dream about and you know finally being able to get there and having to go down there next year and prove something to the coaching staff and the players surrounding it has definitely, you know, elevated my game,” White said.
McLaughlin said that even with all White’s success and accolades, he’s still the same old Colin.
