CINCINNATI — A new mental health facility is using an alternative to antidepressants to help youth and young adults overcome depression.
It’s called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, and it’s being offered at the Modern Psychiatry and Wellness facility in Butler County.
TMS is a non-invasive treatment that uses a machine to locate the depression censor in the brain and send magnetic energy to that location. It’s FDA approved and accepted by most insurance companies and Medicaid.
“We have folks who typically don't respond to medication or don't get much better with medication, were able to get a response rate that is greater than 80%,” said Dr. Quinton Moss, Modern Psychiatry and Wellness CEO and medical director. “Within that same population of people who don't respond to medication, we're able to get more than half of those people on to remission.”
Besides offering TMS, the mental health facility also doesn’t require an appointment. You can just walk in and get an assessment the same day.
