OHIO — It has been four years since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, and many products we use in everyday life have gotten more expensive since then.
Consumers across the country have noticed that prices are not what they were pre-pandemic.
While gas and electricity have seen an increase, data shows that our pockets have been hit the most at the grocery store.
As of January, the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported that the cost of groceries was almost 25% more expensive than they were in March 2020. The price of a dozen eggs has risen quite a bit. In March 2020, the average price was $1.53, and now it’s almost a dollar more rounding out at about $2.52. The country saw a huge spike last January with the average price of eggs being almost $5.
Ground chuck and ground beef have also become more expensive. In March 2020, the average price for a pound was $4.11 and, as of this January, prices were around $5.09.
However, items like chicken, bananas and tomatoes have not seen as big of a price hike.
