CINCINNATI — It’s “Read Across America” week and one hospital is helping students get excited about reading.

  •  Employees from Children's Hospital are reading to students at 13 schools across Southwest Ohio this week

  • The hospital hopes to help students improve their reading skills 

Employees from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center paying a visit to South Avondale Elementary School in Cincinnati. Throughout the morning, the employees read to students who also got the chance to take part in arts and crafts activities related to the books. One of the goals of this event is to help students become more literate.

“With reading scores being down we wanted to get out into more communities, help the kids and help the teachers with this wonderful initiative,” said Hayley Shropshire, senior specialist and community engagement at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. 

South Avondale is one of 13 schools that the employees from Cincinnati Children’s are visiting throughout the week. Over 500 books were donated to the schools this year.
