Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley will hold a rally in Portland on Sunday, according to her campaign website.
The former South Carolina governor is set to speak at 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge on Congress Street.
The campaign stop in Maine is just two days before the Super Tuesday primaries in which Haley is challenging frontrunner former President Donald Trump. On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden faces U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips.
Haley’s Portland appearance is part of a pre-Super Tuesday campaign swing across several states, including North Carolina, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine and Texas.
Fifteen states are voting in the Super Tuesday primary.
Recent polls show Haley trailing Trump in Maine by a large margin. A Pan Atlantic poll released Monday shows Trump with 66% of the vote in Maine versus 24% for Haley.
A separate poll by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center released last week shows 77% of likely Republican voters choosing Trump, with Haley at 19%.
In addition to members of the two major parties, unenrolled voters are eligible to vote in Tuesday’s primaries in Maine without having to enroll in either party.
