COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State Women’s Basketball pulled off a thrilling overtime upset in a 100-92 victory over the No. 2 Iowa Hawkeyes and Caitlin Clark. The game brought lots of excitement and lots of fans to Columbus.

Over 18,600 fans packed inside the Schott, a new OSU women’s basketball record, and the largest indoor crowd for an NCAA women’s basketball game this season.

Between Caitlin Clark’s 45 points and OSU’s Cotie McMahon’s 33, it was a shootout at the Schottenstein. Players say the atmosphere is what kept them in the game.

“Playing in an atmosphere like this together and everyone on the same page, it was really cool," McMahon said. "It was a really great blessing.

“They showed out today, they were amazing," OSU guard Jacy Sheldon said of Buckeye Nation. "They changed the game, it’s one of the, maybe the loudest atmosphere we’ve ever played in so it was amazing.”

Part of that atmosphere were young girls like Piper Guzick, a 12-year-old Caitlin Clark fan from Pennsylvania who made the drive to Columbus to see her favorite player.

“I play basketball and before, whenever I watch her games I just think that someday that I could be that good and I could play like that," Guzick said.

Or the entire sixth, seventh, and eight grade teams from Marietta.

“It’s been really cool because a lot of us like Ohio State, but also we’ve watched Ohio State play and she’s our idol, so it’s really cool to get to watch her in person because we all want to be like her one day," Kendall VanderWal an eighth grade basketball player for Marietta said.

Ohio State head coach Kevin McGuff says he hopes this game makes even more people fans of the women’s game.

“Just a great game," McGuff said. "For fans who have never been here before, hopefully, that keeps them coming back because I thought you saw a really, a team playing extremely hard, extremely well, and together. So I think we’re a fun group to watch and so hopefully we can continue to build on this.”

This was arguably one of the biggest wins in Ohio State’s women’s basketball history. And fans get to see this matchup one more time in the regular season, when the Bucks travel to Iowa City for the final game in the regular season and Caitlin Clark’s senior night.
