SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - One Ohio Army National Guard is deploying overseas.

The 1137th Tactical Installation Networking Enhanced (TIN-E) Signal Company out of Springfield, Ohio will work to support the efforts of United States Central Command or CENTCOM.

Areas of responsibility include the Middle East, Central Asia and parts of South Asia.

This mobilization is unique for both the soldiers and the unit as a whole.

  • It's the first time the unit is mobilizing

“It’s just something I’ve been interested in pretty much my whole life, so my grandpa, he served, and I believe both of my great grandpas also served. So it was a cool opportunity and I’m excited for it,” said 2LT Collin Hyre.

Hyre has been serving for two years and, like many in the unit, it’s his first deployment.

He’s ready, but nine months away is a little tough for his family to watch.

“It happened really fast and you realize it’s actually here now. I’m super nervous for him, but I know he’ll be alright,” said his father Adam Hyre.

The 1137th is a newer unit, and this is the first time it’s been called to mobilize.

While deployed, soldiers will install, repair, recover, and maintain telecommunications network lines and infrastructure.

For Commander CPT Cory Bissett, this will be his second time overseas and he’s excited to help create a backbone of communication.

“Same area, so I know the area pretty well. I’m excited to go with these soldiers. They worked really hard to get ready and I couldn’t be more proud. The biggest thing is being the Commander at the beginning of the unit and getting the opportunity to go over with them on their first mobilization is very exciting to me,” Bissett said.

For Hyre, the time away will be worth it.

“It’s definitely a long time, but I’ll be able to talk to whoever I need to back home. Getting used to the time change will definitely be difficult, but other than that, I think it should be a good time with everybody there,” said Collin Hyre.

“He’s an awesome kid. It’s just amazing the man he’s become. I couldn’t be more proud of him,” said Adam Hyre.

The unit has about 140 soldiers and 30 are heading out for this round of mobilization.

A second group will follow at a later date.
