STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz attended the Strongsville GOP’s Christmas party Thursday night, two-and-a-half years after the last time he spent time with the group.

“Ohio has become the beating red heart of the Midwest, and so I’m here to celebrate with some of the activists,” he said.

Gaetz spoke about some of the issues happening in the House right now, such as Kevin McCarthy announcing that he’s stepping down and that two Ohio lawmakers decided not to seek re-election.

“Maybe they don’t want to be doing that work anymore and we’ll get a new batch of patriots right behind them I hope,” he said.

During his speech, he did not endorse any of the three Ohio Republicans that are running against Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown. He also expressed that he believes that Ohio has turned from a purple to a red state.

“I want to make sure we’re building that grass roots capability to go and knock the doors and win the elections, and spend a little time celebrating the Christmas season as well,” he said.
