But what would be even bigger is a win over LAFC on Saturday. It is the kickoff of a big weekend celebrated with a big shiny trophy as a reflection of how big this opportunity is for the crew and the city of Columbus.

Columbus Crew mascots Crew Cat and S.C. were in attendance to bring Crew spirit along with Columbus Crew legends and fans. Everyone came together in the Short North to commemorate the MLS cup with a large replica of the actual trophy that the Crew hopes to hoist Saturday evening.

Former Columbus crew player and 2008 MLS cup winner Frankie Hejduk says this team has made this city that loves football love another type of football even more.

“This is a club that's done a lot from the roots up and really made this city, which was, you know, a total football city. And I'm a football fan, too, but made them become another football city,” said former Columbus Crew defender, Frankie Hejduk.

The crew plays LAFC at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Lower.com Field.
