CLEVELAND — The Cleveland School of Cannabis has tips on growing cannabis from home.

What You Need To Know

  • The Cleveland School of Cannabis is located in Independence

  • It offers a program for people wanting to grow cannabis from home

  • Growers have to maintain a certain type of environment to grow cannabis at home

Issue 2 passed earlier this month legalizing the recreational use of marijuana in Ohio. Starting next month, anyone 21 and up will be able to buy and possess the drug.

And they will also be able to grow it at home. The Cleveland School of Cannabis is offering a course to give people some helpful tips and tricks about how to grow their own marijuana at home.

Austin Briggs, owner of Cleveland School of Cannabis, said the school is an all-around educational institute for the cannabis industry.

“Whether you’re trying to find maybe a job in the cannabis industry or if you just want to learn how to grow at home or how to cook with cannabis or you’re just a patient trying to increase your access and the quality of your medicine,” Briggs said.

Now that Ohioans have passed Issue 2, Briggs said he is excited that Ohioans will have the opportunity to grow marijuana at home starting on December 7th.

“I think Ohio is going to have one of the best cannabis programs in the entire country. I think it’s really set up for success and for long-term success of the licensees and the patients and users as well,” Briggs said.

And if someone is looking to grow, Briggs has some tips on where to start.

“You want to really control as much as you can of the environment. The humidity, the lighting, the temperature,” Briggs said.

To do that, Briggs suggests growers should control the environment as much as possible when it comes to humidity and the lighting. The temperature should be about 65 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Adults aged 21 years old and up can grow up to six plants in their household. If there are two or more people living there, they can have 12.

One Ohioan, Sean Music, is in the process of building his own greenhouse that will be ready to go this spring. He said it is temperature controlled for home growing.

“Just being able to grow it is great. You’ll get probably three quarters of a pound to a pound per plant, so there’s no need to really buy it anymore,” Music said.
