CLEVELAND — Calls flooded in to 92.3 The Fan once news broke that Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is out for the year with a shoulder injury. Co-host Andy Baskin said fans are disappointed but haven’t given up on the season.

What You Need To Know

  • Browns QB Deshaun Watson is now out for the season with a shoulder injury

  • Watson suffered the injury during the win last week against the Ravens

  • Head Coach Kevin Stefanski has named Dorain Thompson-Robinson as the starter for the next game against the Steelers

“I think fans are devastated, but I do think that they’ve seen this team win without Deshaun Watson before," Baskin said. "So they get it. They've had a little hors d'oeuvre of what the season's gonna be like. I don't know, people wanna be optomistic here in town and they probably should be because of the defense. But they're gonna have to figure out something on offense."

The Browns said Watson suffered the injury during the Baltimore game. Watson found out about the extent of his injury shortly after the game.

“It’s very tough," Watson said. "Heard about it. But I'm uh, making sure I keep my head above water and make sure I stay in touch with all the guys and support them as much as I possibly can and attack this rehab process.”

Now the next man up is Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Kevin Stefanski named his starter during a presser, but said he feels bad for Watson.

“He’s disappointed," Stefanski said. "He’s a competitor. He’s a leader of the football team. So it’s tough. We've all been around this game, we've seen guys have season-ending injuries and it's no fun for anybody. You feel for those guys."

Fans still want their money’s worth since Watson inked a 230 million dollar contract, the biggest fully-guaranteed contract in NFL history. He served an 11 game suspension last season from the NFL after allegations of sexual misconduct. Watson has also missed three games this year due to injury.

“I think this is gonna prolong the question," Baskin said. They gave up draft picks. They gave up a lot of money. Fans wanted to see that return on investment. And I think they started to see it against one of the best defenses in the league against the Ravens.”

This is the second major injury for the Browns after Nick Chubb was lost for the year back in September. Baskin said the team will rely on the running game and defense to salvage the season.

“I don’t think all is lost," Baskin said. "They need a guy that can come in and be a game manager so the defense can go out there and get wins.”

The Browns are now looking for a third quarterback for the team. They are expecting Watson to be ready to play by the start next season. Stefanski said he is glad that Dorian Thompson-Robinson will get a full week to prepare, since the Browns enter their game with Pittsburgh tied for second place in the division with the Steelers.
