Gloversville police arrested two people they said are to blame for a October 2022 death of a woman with special needs.
Sarah Mango, a 26-year-old Gloversville resident, faces five charges: criminally negligent homicide, endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person or incompetent or physically disabled person, falsifying business records, second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree endangerment of the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.
Jacquelyn Bayless, a 22-year-old Gloversville resident, has also been charged with falsifying business records, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.
Police responded to a report of an unresponsive woman, 73-year-old Patricia Nicholls, in the bedroom of a supervised living facility on Prospect Avenue last October. The police release did not note the name of the facility. Nicholls was suffering from cardiac arrest, police said, and was taken to the hospital. She died five days later on Nov. 3.
An investigation revealed that Nicholls had been left unsupervised in a wheelchair and suffered injuries that restricted her circulation, ultimately leading to cardiac arrest, police said. Records showing how often Nicholls was checked on were also falsified, police said.
Gloversville police worked with the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs to investigate the death, conducting interviews, reviewing policies and training programs at the supervised living facility, and analyzing evidence.
