AURORA, Ohio — An Ohio High School football player is receiving a lot of attention nationwide. Aurora High School played Barberton last week and senior Dylan Crasi made an acrobatic interception that sealed Aurora’s 35-33 victory.
The play earned the top spot on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays Saturday morning. Crasi, who grew up watching SportsCenter, said it was an unforgettable moment.
“It’s been really crazy, kind of a surreal moment for me,” he said.
This wasn’t just any kind of interception, Crasi did a back flip while catching the ball in the end zone with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter.
“That was a really really high pressure situation and somebody had to make a play and it really could have been anybody, but just so grateful it was me,” he said.
“The first thing we were concerned that he might be hurt,” said Bob Mihalik, Crasi’s head coach. “You know cause when you see him fall down we were worried about his neck, but when he popped up we were pretty happy obviously that he was healthy number one and number two that he saved the game,” he said.
Mihalik was the one who suggested to send the play into SportsCenter. Crasi said he woke up with thousands of notifications on his phone after his interception was posted. He said some people have been calling him “SportsCenter” all week..
“Such a great community, tight-knit community, everybody knows each other. You walk around and you see somebody you know, so it’s been really great having all the support,” he said.
Crasi said that the whole moment was a team win and great exposure for his teammates, coaches and the city of Aurora.
