COLUMBUS, Ohio — More progress is being made in Columbus to add affordable housing options within the city. Officials cut the ribbon Thursday morning on the city’s newest affordable housing development called Topiary Park crossing.
The Columbus Downtown Development Corporation wanted to create a space for working families downtown that’s both convenient and affordable in areas that might not have been affordable in the past. Elected officials said it’s a part of their push to get better as they get bigger.
“Topiary Park, this grand opening today is proof positive that we can do this. That we can make sure that everyone gets to experience this great downtown. Ninety-eight new units, most affordable units, in the downtown area is an amazing testament to what we can do when we work together,” City Council President Shannon Hardin said.
As the city looks to grow its affordable housing options, officials know there’s a wide range of people who are looking to take advantage of them, including the many area college students.
“It doesn’t feel like it either and it was perfectly what I was looking for. I’m a grad student so finding something affordable was actually a must for me,” said John Ali, a graduate student at The Ohio State University.
According to city council, this is the first step of many to connect communities in Columbus, modernizing the city and taking it to the future as it grows.
