“It’s disappointing; it’s not surprising. As I said, the answer to that question here tonight, no one is above the law, but frankly, no one is beneath the law,” Davidson said.

In a packed town hall meeting where some of Ohio voters' top concerns were given a voice, the Republican Congressman spoke candidly about the indictment.

“There’s a lot of sentiment that says that Donald Trump is being tarred because he’s Donald trump. And the timing of this is not coincidental,” he said during the meeting.

Davidson represents Ohio’s 8th Congressional District.

It’s a large region on the far west side of the state, stretching from part of Cincinnati to around Dayton.

“A lot of these state-based prosecutors, whether it’s in Georgia or New York, they campaigned on targeting Donald Trump. They’re raising money off of targeting Donald Trump,” Davidson added.

Other topics he discussed included inflation, immigration, the war in Afghanistan, spending for Ukraine, and national defense.

“Article 4 section 4 of the Constitution says that we have a republic; every state shall provide a Republican form of government," he said. "That means not mob rule, not whatever is popular goes. It means that people are guaranteed due process and a fair trial and I think a lot of people rightly recognize that Donald Trump is not being treated fairly here.”

When it comes to the impact on the Republican Party, Davidson believes there’s a growing concern.

“I think the Republican Party is right to be concerned about the weaponization of government," he said. "Speaker McCarthy created a weaponization committee for a reason. There are people that are abusing the power of our government and that’s frankly the charter of the weaponization committee is to make sure our government actually represents our country, not special interests and certainly not the current administration.”
