  • Dozens of these huge animals roam the Ohio countryside

“It takes somebody crazy like me to raise them,” Slifko said. “Look at this beautiful country here, the rolling hills and everything, we are just so blessed.”

The former real estate developer said his wife was the one who brought up the owning a farm

“About 25 years ago my wife goes, ‘I think I would like a farm.’ I says, ‘A farm? I don’t know how to milk a chicken, you know, I’m a city boy,’” Slifko said.

Back then, he said never could never have imagined owning dozens of these huge animals.

“We were watching National Geographic one Sunday evening, and the whole hour was on bison,” he said. “I just feel in love with them.”

Now, he said people from all over the area travel to this farm in Marshallville, located about 30 minutes outside of Akron.

He credits the success of his farm and throughout his life to his faith.

“God blessed me in everything we did, and I didn’t even know him,” he said. “Even though I had everything I didn’t have anything.”

At 80-years-old, Slifko said he has no plans of retiring anytime soon.

“Each day is a blessing, you know, when you get older you realize it more,” he said. “You can’t think about it cause then you get depressed, so that’s why I like to keep active. You know, doing silly things, simple things a lot of the times.”
