“We have an amazing crew of people that all love boating. We just have a blast out here,” said Aaron Lecklider, a member of the Scioto Boat Club.

Alongside Lecklider, Dr. Michael Tiso and Curt Bernstein found lasting friendships through their love of water sports.

The Scioto River, flowing north to south, provides the perfect setting for wake boarding.

“Truly the best place in Ohio to wake board,” said Tiso.

He credits the river’s setup, offering calm and flat waters and shielded from wind interference. Jet skis and tubing are prohibited on the Scioto River, allowing wake boarders to ride without disruption.

The wake boarding season can start as early as March and last as late as December, weather permitting and depending on riders' comfort with colder water.

"When you're riding, you're usually the center of attention, so you usually build off the energy that's in the boat," said Bernstein, highlighting the camaraderie and shared joy among the wake boarding community.

As the Scioto Boat Club approaches its centennial milestone, the legacy of passion and better, safer boating continues to inspire new generations of boaters and water sports athletes.

Lecklider, Tiso and Bernstein are a testament to the joy and excitement found in mastering the art of wake boarding on the scenic waters of the Scioto River.
