CLEVELAND — The 14th Cleveland Asian Festival began Saturday and took place throughout the weekend. Johnny Wu, one of the festival’s co-founders, explained why they started having the event.

“Bring celebration to API Heritage month and providing and educating the culture,” he said.
Local Cleveland organizations came out to the festival, and Wu appreciated their support.
“Many of these organizations are here because they want to be promoting diversity and they want to be here to promote Asian culture with us,” he said.
There were food vendors, live performances and shopping. Wu expressed that he feels like everyone is welcome at this festival, regardless of their background.
“Every year we see so many people coming out, having a great time, enjoying the festival and it doesn’t matter who you are, what you’re doing, sexual orientation, doesn’t matter. Everybody just has a great time coming here,” he said.
Feng Laughlin, a dance teacher for a group who performed at the festival, said that this festival helps people understand each other’s culture.
"All different kinds of people together, and if we want the whole world to be harmony, we need to understand each other,” she said.
This was the festival’s 14th year, and they plan to continue having them every year.
