ASHLAND, Ohio — The Ashland Eagles women's basketball team is back home after they defeated Minnesota Duluth in the Division II NCAA championship game.

The Eagles arrived back on campus to a big crowd, with fans lined up to welcome them. Coach Kari Pickens also made history, becoming the first to win a Division II championship as a player, assistant coach and now head coach.

Coach Pickens said this moment has come full circle for her.

“I don’t think you realize how special it is in the moment, and I remember people telling me that when I was a player," she said. "Driving in here and seeing so many people out on Main Street and making it so special, sports can be really good and really bad. It can be ugly and beautiful, and I think there is a lot of beauty in having a community come together like this."
