The Knights (25-3) trailed the entire first half, falling down by as many as seven, before using a 14-0 run in the third frame to open a 46-32 lead. That grew to 53-35 in the final seconds of the quarter when Mitch Temple hit a three, allowing Crestview to outscore Hiland 26-7 in the third.

The lead grew to 21 points in the fourth, but Hiland (19-10) kept battling and closed it to six late in the game.

Free throws were a huge factor, as the Knights converted 30 of 41 attempts, and even though the Hawks shot 75% from the stripe, they only had 16 chances.

Temple had a game-high 25 points, supported by 17 by Wren Sheets. Hiland had three in double-figures, led by Sammy Detweiler’s 19 and 10 each from Nick Wigton and Carson Habeger.

Crestview will go for a second state title in four years on Sunday (2019), playing the winner of Richmond Heights vs. Russia in the Division IV championship game (2 p.m. on Spectrum News 1 and the Spectrum News App). The Knights also were state champs in 2014.
