COLUMBUS — Mobile health units are set to arrive on Columbus’ west side this weekend.

Columbus City Schools, in partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Primary One Health, and Spectrum News 1, is hosting the EduHealth Caravan.

What You Need To Know

  • Full health check-ups including immunizations will be provided

  • The goal of the EduHealth Caravan is to eliminate barriers to health care

  • The event is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at La Plaza Tapatia

The goal is to eliminate barriers that many have with access to health care. Health officials say housing and food insecurity, along with on and off insurance can be some of those barriers. So, the health care community will provide access to care onsite in the mobile health care units at La Plaza Tapatia.

Dr. Sara Bode said they’re providing comprehensive care for adults and kids that they would typically get at a regular doctor’s office visit, including “screening for their weight, diabetes, for asthma… for all of those conditions that adults sometimes have to handle as well as getting them caught up on any needed immunizations.”

Grocery store supervisor Jesus Arguello said having the event is very important.

“A large majority of our Latino population has certain fears, or they don’t know where to go,” he said. “The lack of information is big and to have this type of event so close, with the large influx of customers we constantly have, is very important.”

He added the barriers make things tougher.

“Like if we were to go to the doctor and they don’t speak our language, that door is closed for us, and we are scared to go back,” he said.

While the store primarily serves the Latino community, Arguello said people from all over come to shop there.

Bode said that as a result, it’s an opportunity for many who live in the area and who have immigrated from another country to get the resources to navigate life.

The EduHealth Caravan is Saturday, March 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at La Plaza Tapatia.
